SCRANTON, PA - Senior forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) scored a goal in each half to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the University of Scranton in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.
Sorice, the defending two-time Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year, lofted a shot, from 20 yards out, over the reach of Colleen Berry in the 26th minute. Sorice was set up with a pass from junior midfielder Andrea DeVoe (Farmington, CT).
With 20:11 remaining in the game, Sorice tallied an unassisted goal after dribbling through the Royals defense before firing a shot from 18 yards out. It was her team-leading third goal of the season.
"We are playing well offensively and defensively in the early going," said WestConn head coach Alex Harrison. "Autumn showed today how special she is when she has the ball and our defense buckled down again."
Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) registered her third shut out of the season after making a pair of saves for the Colonials. She has allowed just one goal on the year.
Berry made five saves for the Royals.
WestConn improves to 4-0 on the season while Scranton evens its record at 2-2.
The Colonials host Lasell College in their home opener on Monday, September 11. Game time is set for 6 pm.
