  • Women’s Soccer Falls to 17th-Ranked Middlebury, 1-0, in NCAA Tourney First Round

    CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Western Connecticut State University women’s soccer team fell to 17th-ranked Middlebury College in the NCAA Division III National Tournament first round hosted by M.I.T on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonials stellar season comes to an end at 17-2-2 overall, while the Panthers improved to 12-3-2 and advanced to the second round where they will meet No. 13 M.I.T. Sunday at 1 p.m.

    MANSFIELD, CT – Senior forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) snatched early momentum from Eastern Connecticut State University by connecting on a 35-yard game-tying bomb midway through the first half, then scored the Golden Goal with just under four minutes left in overtime as the Colonials defeated the tournament’s top seed on its home turf for the second straight season, 2-1, in the championship game of the 2017 Little East Conference Tournament at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Colonials improved to 12-0-2 overall, while the Hawks dropped to 4-10-1.

With the tie, the Colonials remained unbeaten, moving to 11-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in league play, while the Warriors went to 5-5-3 and 3-0-1.
