WestConn Women's Lacrosse Close Out Southern Swing With 19-9 Win Over St. Mary's of Indiana

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL - Freshman attack Brooke Baldelli (New Fairfield, CT) scored a game-high six goals and the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its three-game southern swing with a 19-9 victory over St. Mary's of Indiana on Thursday morning.

The Colonials, now 3-2 overall, went 2-1 in the Florida with wins over Mount Holyoke College (12-9) on Tuesday and SMI today.  They fell to nationally ranked Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday, 18-2, and closed out the three-games-in-three-days run with a victory.

WestConn raced out to a 12-6 lead at the break and outscored the Belles, 7-3 over the final 30 minutes including  a string of three-straight goals from Bardelli during an eight-minute span.

Destinee Carey (New Milford, CT) and Olivia Kosilla (Ellington, CT) added four and three goals, respectively, for the winners.  Carey registered a game-high seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Lauren Bradshaw (Bethel, CT) and Andrea Tarsi (Danbury, CT) contributed a pair of goals apiece for the winners.

Missy O'Donnell (Bridgeport, CT) made eight saves for the Colonials while Cara Givens turned away six of WestConn's 25 shots.

"Today was an overall team win and a great way to end out Spring Break trip," said second-year head coach Jenn Thomas.  "We are looking forward to a few days off and then get back to work against Farmingdale State next week."

Mary Singler and Kate Kelly each tallied three goals for St. Mary's (IN), now 0-3

The Colonials, continue their 11-game away-from-home slate when they travel to meet the Rams on Wednesday, March 22.  The draw from the center circle is set to take place at 7:00 pm.
