DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team began a three-match-in-three-days string with a 7-2 victory over visiting Lehman College at Westside Courts on Thursday afternoon.
WestConn, now 4-4, raced out to a 2-3 advantage after Jason Hipona and Aaron Campos defeated Michael Forte and Jeffrey Lecitona at first flight doubles, 8-3 and Jacques Fortier and Jeremy Cardella got by Adriel Grant and Brian Persuade, 8-3, at #3 doubles.
The Lightning's Richard Williams and Won Sik Park edged Mycland Cothias and Jeff Hensley, 8-6, to close out the doubles competition.
Singles got off to a great start with five of six WestConn players capturing the first set.
Adam Howard completed the team win with a come-from-behind, three-set 4-5, 7-6, 10-8 win, over Lecitona at third-flight singles.
Adam's patience was tested in his match, but he found a way to overcome it and play great tennis whe he needed it most," stated head coach Shawn Stillman.
Other winners for the Colonials in singles were Campos over Forte, 6-2, 6-2 at #1 solos. Hipona cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Williams at second singles.
Hensley and Fortier won at four and five singles to round out the match.
WestConn plays host to Rutgers-Newark on Friday. First serve is slated for 1 pm. The homestand continues when the Colonials host Little East Conference foe Bridgewater State on Saturday, April 15, at 1 pm.
