DANBURY, CT - Sophomore forward Molly Richard (Leominster, MA) scored off a rebound, with 2:06 elapsed in the second overtime to lift Fitchburg State University to a 2-1, come-from-behind win over the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team at The Westside Athletic Complex on tuesday night.
Richard was in the right place to collected her team-leading 11th goal after Madeline Hoffman's (Mansfield, MA) initial shot was saved by Western senior goalie Kristy Trotta (Danbury, CT).
Trotta has another stellar performance for the Colonials in the cage on Tuesday. She made 17 saves and withstood 32 total shots, 19 of them on point from the Falcons.
Western, 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the Little East Conference, took a 1-0 lead at the 14:10 mark when Olympia Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) finished off a crossing pass from Allie Noteware (New Milford, CT). The Colonials would hold that slim advantage going into the break.
Fitchburg State, now 7-4 overall and 5-4 in the LEC, drew even when Hoffman tallied her fifth goal of the season off a feed from Richard in the 48th minute.
Brittany Linane (Portsmouth, NH) made one save for the Falcons.
Western Connecticut will celebrate the careers of three seniors this Saturday, October 15 when it plays host to Framingham State University at 4 pm. Festivities for Brianna Reda (New Milford, CT), Bryanna Willaby (Branford, CT) and Trotta will be playing their last weekend home game on Saturday.
