DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut field hockey team fell to visiting LEC foe Keene State, 6-1, on Saturday night at The Westside Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Owls improved to 5-2 and 2-0. Junior Greta McConnell (Norwalk, CT) notched the lone Western goal on a penalty stroke as time expired, good for her third tally of the season.
Senior Sami Smith (Merrimack, NH) and sophomore Erica Stauffer (Cheshire, CT) paced Keene State with a pair of goals each, while seniors Brittney Cardente (North Kingstown, RI) and Kayla Renaud (Somers, CT) each dished out two assists for the visitors.
The Owls took a commanding 6-0 lead heading into halftime. However, the Colonials bounced back to outscore the visitors in the second half despite taking the loss. McConnell smacked a liner into the top-right corner of the cage, good for her team-leading third goal of the season.
Western returns to action against visiting conference nemesis Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
