DANBURY, CT - Michaila Parent (Westborough, MA) scored with 25 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the visiting Worcester State University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Western Connecticut State University at The Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Parent collected a rebound in front of the cage off Western's keeper Kristy Trotta's (Danbury, CT) save of an attempt by Kayla Quinn (Sutton, MA).
The Lancers, now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference dominated the seven-on-seven period, out-shooting the Colonials, 8-0, forcing Trotta to make six fabulous stops.
Western, 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, took a 1-0 lead when junior midfielder Greta McConnell (Norwalk, CT) scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute. It was her second marker of the season.
Parent, who is now tied with Olivia Antonelli (Westford, MA) with two goals on the season, tied the contest 5:46 into the second half. She was set up by a pass from Quinn.
Trotta finished with 14 saves as Worcester State pelted her with 21 shots on the afternoon.
Kathryn Salemme (Acton, MA) turned away four Western shots on the way to her second win of the season.
